I am an artist living in Bristol where I produce drawings in charcoal, pencil & soft pastels on paper, both outdoors & in the studio but always nature is my starting point.  It gives me a sense of continuity, perspective and a time frame that shows complete indifference to me.  Yet I feel part of it – a tiny cog in the giant machine.  I belong!  My experience of life weaves into this and that’s where my art comes from.

My work is about landscape, people and my environment.

Trees are a favourite subject and when I look at, say, an oak that has been around for five centuries continuing serenely season after season, indifferent to generations of humans, containing an ecosystem of animals and plants, It’s hard to think of it as just a tree – it’s an individual and so landscapes become portraits.

Life drawings are part of my discipline and these have insinuated themselves into my work.  I’m working on a series of strangely mixed drawings at the moment.

I also produce drawings and prints of places I know and have visited – views of Bristol and elsewhere.
